Why Trying To Lose Weight Causes You To Fail

One of the phrases we hear most often is “I am not losing weight.” For my trainers, and myself it makes our blood curdle. Out of the many things that come to our minds when we hear this, 5 particular things come to reign supreme:

This person has spent a good part of their life trying to lose the same pounds.
They are on some “fad diet.”
They have tried every diet pill or fix.
They are always trying to undo their bad habits.
Most importantly, they will never really lose the weight. (sad)
Before you think that I am a pessimistic trainer who can’t see the positive in anything, think about this…

After all your life, or after all the gain/lose, gain/lose episodes, shouldn’t you realize what you are doing is not working.

No fad diet or any type of diet for that matter is not sustainable. At least 95% of the time.
Weight loss is a byproduct of certain correct habits and behaviors, not pills and fixes.
If you are honest with yourself and always trying to find a way to do what you know is wrong, understand that it is your habits and therefore your life that must change.

A lifetime of obesity or just being overweight as a result of selfishness and lack of discipline is sad.

I will say this…my philosophy on fitness and nutrition works.

Why… because it’s true and it demands that you change yourself from the inside out. There are many other philosophies that also work but basic nutrition principles should move across the entire spectrum of health and fitness. Of course there are some rare occasions of people that cheat the odds and some special cases but then again, good nutrition is good nutrition.

I spent the first part of my career writing out strict diets that I demanded my clients to follow if they wanted to train with me. They worked. I was a bodybuilder and I knew my stuff. Sadly, I realized that the moment they were on their own, they forgot everything and yep, they were right where they started from the beginning. I failed as a trainer and I knew it. What went wrong? My clients were like robots, did what I said, memorized their plans, did their hours of cardio etc. The problem was, I never forced them to learn for themselves, change their habits, become disciplined and develop a desire for themselves.

208051These days, we NO longer do that. NO fad diets, low carb diets, hours of cardio, plethora of weight loss supplements, cleanses, dehydration…NONE.

We don’t focus on weight loss.

We focus on life change. Discipline. Sacrifice. Honesty. Being healthy. Correct thinking. In the middle of all this, we exercise, get sweaty, get tired, lift heavy, run sprints, and scream chants while all of this takes place.

No weight loss competitions, just transformation challenges. (inside and out)
